This civil engineering and project management project was initiated by the uMkhanyakude District Municipality under the Mtubatuba Local Municipality. The vast project scope encompassed the refurbishment and upgrading of wastewater / sewers from five different locations of the municipality. These included Nordale Township, Mtubatuba Town CBD, Ndlovu Village, Msane Ponds and Township, and St Lucia Ponds. The scope for these five locations included:
1. Nordale Township
- Construct sewer network to service conversion of houses currently on septic tanks
2. Mtubatuba CBD
- Construct new pumpstation.
- Upgrade outfall sewer line from 160mm to 315mm.
3. Ndlovu Village
- Refurbish and commission existing sewage pumpstation.
- Construct house connection pipes to connect houses to existing network.
- Refurbish and unblock all blocked sewer and commission sewer network.
- Locate and raise mid-block sewer manholes.
4. Msane Ponds and Township
- Refurbish and commission inlet works.
- Refurbish and unblock all blocked sewers in township.
- Construct new operator house.
- Install security fencing around sewer ponds.
5. St Lucia Ponds
- Upgrade Mckenzie Drive
- Upgrade pumpstation 4 to 6 sewer lines from 160mm to 200mm.
- Refurbish six existing submersible pumpstations.
- Install additional fencing around sewer ponds.
- Construct new operator house.
- Remove undesired vegetation within the pond’s fenced area.
